Privacy Policy – Memori: Elder Care Companion

Your privacy is important to us. This policy explains clearly what data Memori collects, why we collect it, and how it is protected. Memori is designed to support older adults and their caregivers — we handle all data with care and discretion.

1 Introduction

Memori: Elder Care Companion ("Memori", "the app", "we", "us") is developed by Shruti Verma and available on the Google Play Store. This Privacy Policy applies to all users of the Memori mobile application.

By using Memori, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.

2 What Data We Collect

We collect only the data necessary to provide Memori's features. This includes:

Name and personal details — entered in the "Who Am I" section (name, personal facts). Stored locally on your device and optionally synced to your caregiver.
Photo — a profile photo you choose from your gallery, used in the Who Am I screen. Stored locally on your device only.
Location data — your GPS coordinates, used for the Safe Zone feature and the "I Am Lost" alert. See Section 5 for full details.
AI chat history — conversations with the AI Companion, stored locally on your device. A daily summary may be sent to your paired caregiver. See Section 6 for full details.
Medication and reminder data — medicine names and schedule times, stored locally on your device.
Pairing code — a randomly generated 6-digit code that links your device to a caregiver's device. Stored in our database (Firebase) to enable the connection.
Push notification token — a device token used to send you and your caregiver safety alerts. Stored securely in Firebase.

3 How We Use Your Data

We use the data we collect solely to operate and improve Memori's features:

To display your personal details in the Who Am I and Help screens
To send safety alerts (I Am Lost, Safe Zone exit, help requests) to your paired caregiver
To generate AI Companion conversation summaries visible to your caregiver
To schedule medication and check-in reminders
To maintain the caregiver pairing connection between two devices

We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or sale to third parties.

4 Who We Share Data With

Memori is built around a private, consent-based caregiver connection. Data sharing is strictly limited:

      Your paired caregiver
      When you share your 6-digit pairing code with a caregiver and they enter it on their device, they gain access to: your name, your location during a safety alert, AI Companion daily summaries, and alert history. This connection is initiated entirely by you.
    

      Firebase (Google)
      We use Firebase Firestore to store your pairing code, push token, alert history, and caregiver link. Firebase is governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
    

      Expo Push Notifications
      Expo's notification service is used to deliver safety alerts. Only your push token and the alert content are transmitted.
    

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with any other third party.

5 Location Data

Memori uses location data for two specific safety features:

Safe Zone monitoring — if you set a home safe zone, the app monitors your GPS position in the background. If you leave the safe zone, your caregiver receives an alert including your approximate coordinates.
I Am Lost alert — if you tap the "I Am Lost" button, your current GPS coordinates are included in the alert sent to your caregiver.
Breadcrumb trail — while you are outside your safe zone, location points are recorded periodically and displayed to your caregiver on a map to help them locate you.

Location data is transmitted directly to your paired caregiver via Firebase. It is not stored long-term — breadcrumbs are automatically deleted after 24 hours. Location is never used for advertising or sold to any party.

You can disable Safe Zone monitoring at any time in Settings → Safe Zone.

6 AI Companion Chat Data

The AI Companion feature lets you have supportive conversations with an AI. Here is how that data is handled:

Conversation messages are stored locally on your device only.
Once per day, the app generates a short written summary of your conversations and sends it to your paired caregiver's dashboard via Firebase. This summary is produced by an AI model (Anthropic Claude) and does not include raw message transcripts.
Logs older than 7 days are deleted automatically from your device.
You can delete all chat history at any time in Settings → AI Companion → Clear All Chat History.

Conversation content is sent to Anthropic's API to generate responses. Please refer to Anthropic's Privacy Policy for how they handle API data.

7 Data Security

We take reasonable measures to protect your data:

All data transmitted between the app and our servers (Firebase, Expo) is encrypted in transit using HTTPS/TLS.
Data stored in Firebase Firestore is protected by Firebase Security Rules, ensuring only authorised devices (linked by pairing code) can read or write it.
Personal details such as name, photo, and medications are stored only on your device using encrypted local storage.

No method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8 Local Device Storage

Some app data — such as authentication tokens, notification preferences, caregiver pairing codes, and app settings — is stored locally on your device using the platform's standard local storage (AsyncStorage). While data transmitted to and stored on our servers is encrypted in transit and at rest, local device storage relies on your device's own security features, including screen lock, device encryption, and biometric authentication. We strongly recommend keeping your device locked with a PIN, password, or fingerprint/face recognition to protect this data.

9 How to Delete Your Data

You are in control of your data. Here is how to remove it:

Chat history — Settings → AI Companion → Clear All Chat History
Medicines and reminders — delete individual items from Settings → Medicines
Safe zone data — Settings → Safe Zone → Clear Safe Zone
Caregiver link — uninstalling the app removes the pairing connection from Firebase automatically after 30 days of inactivity
Account and data deletion — email getmemoriapp@gmail.com to request full data deletion

To request deletion of all data associated with your account, contact us at getmemoriapp@gmail.com. We will process deletion requests within 30 days.

10 Children's Privacy

Memori is designed for adults, specifically older adults and their adult caregivers. The app is not intended for use by anyone under the age of 18.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 18. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at getmemoriapp@gmail.com and we will delete it promptly.
